Zhang Yimou playing with Colors
Zhang Yimou loves playing with colors and expressing his ideas about China in his films. Although the article is about a films called "Happy Times" the article mostly talks about his repeitions in the films in directed. According to Huffman, Yimou has a habit of transcending colors throughout his films. Just because his opening shot seems colorblind does not mean the rest of the film is so. Along with having an artistically use of color, Yimou also puts the same effort into sound, because he believe it is also an important aspect of the film. His elaborate use of color and sound is used to describe his ideas of China's society to the audience, but it is hard for western viewers to understand the concept. I myself have trouble understanding, even though i have part Chinese blood in my vein. Although all his movie differ in many aspect, Yimou masterpieces can easily be spotted through the use of color, sound, and its theme.
