"Saving Private Ryan is one of the most brilliant pieces of film ever created. I don't think I'll ever be able to watch it again." - MaryAnn Johanson
This movie review contains a short summary of the film, but mainly sticks to her overall reaction and feel about the movie. The review focuses on the reality that Steven Spielberg portrayed throughout the movie for example the 'grainy' picture quality was reminiscent of movies during the mid-40s. Johanson remarks on the horrific images that will inevitably give someone nightmares just thinking about the brutality that actually occurred during WWII. Speilberg's intentions were to emphasize the horrific scenes in order to convey the realities to the audience (most of which were not around to even remember anything about WWII other than through textbooks) and help them understand what soldiers then and now have to face.
It is a movie that through it gruesome outlook on war and brutal reality invites the audience to share the same feelings as the soldiers.
